GREENVILLE, NC - East Carolina junior defensive end Terrell Stanley, who was seriously injured during an automobile accident Feb. 12, will be sidelined during the 2014 season according to an announcement from head football coach Ruffin McNeill on Thursday.

While Stanley has demonstrated continued progress during his rehabilitation process, McNeill fully supported the decision after monitoring routine follow-up medical evaluations and engaging in discussions with the family.

"Terrell has come a long way and we admire his determination to return to battle, but he's not ready to be in a position to fairly compete at the level he needs to be," McNeill said. "His full recovery and health are our first priority, as it would be with any of our players. We're looking forward to him getting back to full strength and joining us in the spring."

The South Brunswick High School product started 12 of 13 games as a sophomore for the Pirates during the 2013 season and stood among the top 10 tacklers with 46 stops. He also ranked second on the unit with 7.0 sacks and was third with 10.0 tackles for lost yardage to earn All-Conference USA (honorable mention) honors.

McNeill said he would assist Stanley in seeking an extension of the NCAA's five-year eligibility clock after his senior season in 2015 if there is an interest pursuing that option at the time. Stanley was redshirted during his true freshman campaign in 2011.

While Athletic Director Jimmy Fletcher was surprised by the announcement he shared, "I have truly enjoyed working with Coach Frazier and wish him all the best."

"I want to wish Scott Frazier well in his future endeavors. I appreciate the time and work Scott has put into our football program and in the classroom," said Principal Brock Ahrens.

WILMINGTON, NC (HAMMERHEADS) -- Wilmington Hammerheads FC will host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Friday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Legion Stadium. This match will be the second meeting between the teams this USL PRO regular season.

The Hammerheads were victorious over the Riverhounds during their first road match back in April, taking a 4-3 win at Highmark Stadium. Hammerheads forward Sammy Ochoa tallied his first two goals of the season during the match, earning him recognition as USL PRO Player of the Week.

“After two big weekends for us against the Charleston Battery – six points is huge,” said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Head Coach David Irving in regards to his team’s recent wins. “We must continue this run against Pittsburgh on Friday. I believe they are a better team than their record shows this season.”

The Riverhounds announced earlier this week they have relieved Justin Evans of his duties as head coach of the team. The Riverhounds currently have an overall record of 0-4-3 this season. Evans is replaced on an interim basis by Frist Team Player Nikola Katic and assisted by Director of Academy Operations, Scott Gibson.

The Riverhounds will travel to Wilmington on Friday and then to Charleston to take on the Battery on Saturday at Blackbaud Stadium.

Hammerheads goalkeeper Quillan Roberts will sit out Friday’s match at Legion Stadium to serve his one suspension after he received a red card last weekend against the Battery.

The Hammerheads recently announced that they will be traveling to Raleigh, NC following Friday’s matchup against the Riverhounds to compete in a friendly match on Saturday versus the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team who have been training at North Carolina State University over the past week. The match kicks off at 6:00 p.m. at NC State Soccer Stadium and is open to the public free of charge.
